Our Services: a mix of graphic design and web development
To keep things simple and manageable, we distinguish seven different services in our service palette. These are respectively animation design, CMS design, database design, graphic design, logo design, responsive design and web design. Thus we have a clear but complete service spectrum in which design and development are equally represented. With this model in mind, we emphasise that our core services in practise always will be a a mixture of graphic design and web design. Our graphic designs projects focus on the artistic design aspect, such as logo design or the design of graphic animations. Our web designs projects focus on more technical design aspects, such as CMS design, database design and responsive design.
To realize animated designs for our clients, we rely on a combination of software that has sofar been successful to us: the combination of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe AfterEffects. To keep life simple, we just don’t invest time and energy in any other animation software. This is how we do it, this works for us and we stick to our guns.
In our internal workflow, we have integrated animation design and logo design so we can use the same building blocks for both. Whenever we have a logo that satisfies our clients’ wishes, the steps to animate is is relatively simple and cheap.
To extend the possibilities to further integrate internal workflows for all our graphic designs; animation design, logo design, or the design of any other type of graphic artwork, we have simplified and standardised the software products that we work with. Thus we don’t spend time and energy to develop the same functionality in different software tools over and over again.
What do we mean by: ‘CMS design’?
Considering the vast diversity of content management systems, we made the clear and distinctive choice to work exclusively with WordPress. The advantage is that we don’t have to invest precious time and energy in any other content management system. We believe that WordPress has evolved to be a solid content management system for small businesses. The many plugins available for WordPress makes it easily configurable and adjustable for many purposes. For custom functions we build child themes that we develop in Adobe Dreamweaver.
Database Design Design
Database design is not really an issuu for us, since we have adopted WordPress as our exclusive content management system. Considering the vast diversity of content management systems, we made the clear and distinctive choice to work exclusively with WordPress. This means that we don’t invest time and energy in any other product out there on the market. We believe that WordPress has evolved to be a solid cms for small business systems. WordPress comes with a reliable build in database system that is highly configurable. Next to that, there’s always the possibility to create custom database tables for special purposes.
When we speak of graphic design, we refer to any artwork that is created by Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop. For our clients we create artwork in both software products, but we prefer Adobe Photoshop. In this matter we have again made the distinctive choice to work exclusively with these products, so we dont have to waste time and energy trying to implement third party products.
For more complex artwork, we have developed a fast and easy way to get the job done, by means of a workflow what we have become to affectionately call ‘object oriented design’.
When we speak of ‘logo design’, superficially as well as technically, we dont see much difference compared to ‘graphic design’. other that that a logo is a work of art that is meant to express a specific idea or feeling regarding the organisation that it was made for. All our logos are designed as refined layered objects in either Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. As such, this makes them easy to extent to be used as animated objects in the future, because a lot of basic elements are already in place.
Nowadays, the majority of websites out there is still based on fixed page layouts. This approach has rapidly become obsolete. Due to the explosion of smartphones and tablets over the past few years, the content of web pages is now consumed by a wider array of screen sizes, screen resolutions, and browser types than ever before. The old school method of fixed page layout design, often leads to a lot of annoying scrolling and zooming, especially for small screen devices. This approach has therefore made room for a new methodology: Responsive Design. Read more >>
Having addressed the various design methodologies and principles above, we have yet to define a definition for web design. And guess what, we really didn’t know the answer so we checked Wikipedia and this is what it said:
Although web design has a fairly recent history, it can be linked to other areas such as graphic design. However web design can also be seen from a technological standpoint. It has become a large part of people’s everyday lives. It is hard to imagine the Internet without animated graphics, different styles of typography, background and music.
Charming ain’t it?
Completing the puzzle
For some time now we have been buzzy rearranging all the pieces of the puzzle: our mission, our services, our clients and our projects. What starts to take shape is a more coherent palette of services, , focused on our clients and based on our mission statement. Especially the introspection that was inevitable to formulate a mission statement was great fun… We have come to the conclusion that we seem to have a built-in urge to create, stylize, shape and design our world over and over again. So accomplishing this very urge became our mission. After all, why not be completely indulged in the excitement about art and design itself?
